Over 21,000 high schools (public) were considered across the country. Many great schools didn’t make the list, but here is a look inside the list based on the data collected. The nationally ranked top school is in Dallas, Texas and is called School for the Talented and Gifted. There is a 100% score for college readiness. The information about the student/teacher ratio is not provided for this particular school. There is a 100% readiness rating for this school as well. The third school near the top of the list is the Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science and Technology. This school is apart of the Gwinnett County Public Schools system. There is a 15:1 student to teacher ratio here. The fourth school on the list is the Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in Alexandria, Virginia. The student teacher ratio at Thomas Jefferson High School is 17:1, which the site notes is larger than the national average. With that being said, it is still fourth on the list and maintains a 100% readiness for college rating. The fifth school on the list of Best Public High Schools is BASIS Scottsdale in Scottsdale, Arizona. It is apart of the BASIS Schools Inc. school system.
